ITINERARY

Day 1

Exploring the Palaces

Morning:
5:30 AM – Visit the Taj Mahal

Arrive early to witness the Taj Mahal at sunrise, when the soft morning light casts a magical glow on the white marble. It’s the best time to avoid crowds and capture beautiful photographs.

Taj Mahal: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Spend around 1.5-2 hours admiring the architecture, intricate carvings, the reflecting pool, and the gardens.

Take a moment to reflect on the beauty and history of the Taj Mahal and its symbolic significance of eternal love.

8:00 AM – Breakfast

Enjoy breakfast at a local cafe or hotel. Try Paratha with yogurt or Aloo Tikki for a light and local breakfast.

9:00 AM – Visit Agra Fort

Head to the Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just 2.5 km from the Taj Mahal.

This imposing red sandstone fort was the residence of Mughal emperors and houses beautiful palaces, mosques, and courtyards. Key areas to explore include the Jahangir Mahal, Khas Mahal, Diwan-i-Aam, and Diwan-i-Khas.

Spend around 1-1.5 hours here.

Mid-Morning
10:30 AM – Visit Mehtab Bagh (Sunset View of Taj Mahal)

After exploring the Agra Fort, head across the Yamuna River to Mehtab Bagh. This garden offers the best view of the Taj Mahal from across the river and is a perfect spot for photography.

Spend about 30-45 minutes here taking in the view of the Taj Mahal with its reflection in the water.

Lunch:
12:00 PM – Lunch at a Local Restaurant

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant such as Pinch of Spice or Esphahan. Opt for traditional Mughlai cuisine like Biryani, Kebabs, Dal Makhani, or Roti with Mutton Curry.

If you prefer something lighter, go for a thali with a variety of regional dishes.

Afternoon:
1:30 PM – Visit Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah

After lunch, head to the Tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah, also known as the Baby Taj. It’s a beautiful tomb made of white marble, and is considered a precursor to the Taj Mahal.

This monument features intricate marble inlay work and has a peaceful, serene ambiance. Spend about 45 minutes to 1 hour exploring the site.

2:45 PM – Visit Akbar’s Tomb (Sikandra)

Head to Akbar’s Tomb at Sikandra, located around 10 km from the city center. This tomb is the final resting place of Emperor Akbar, one of the greatest Mughal emperors.

The tomb is set in a large garden and features a blend of Mughal, Persian, Ottoman, and Indian architectural styles. It’s a calm and beautiful site, ideal for a stroll. Spend around 1 hour here

Visit Nehru Garden, located on an island in the lake, or enjoy a sunset walk along the promenade.

Evening:
4:30 PM – Visit the Jama Masjid

After visiting Akbar’s Tomb, make your way to the Jama Masjid, located in the heart of Agra. This large mosque was built by Shah Jahan and is an architectural masterpiece.

Spend 30 minutes exploring the mosque and its surroundings.

5:30 PM – Explore the Local Markets and Shopping

Head to Sadar Bazar or Kinari Bazar for shopping. Agra is known for its Marble Inlay Work, Leather Goods, and Petha (a sweet made from pumpkin). You can pick up souvenirs or just explore the bustling markets.

7:00 PM – Dinner

Enjoy your dinner at one of Agra’s famous restaurants, such as Dasaprakash for South Indian cuisine or Peshawari at the ITC Mughal for Mughlai dishes.

Tandoori Roti, Kebabs, Mughlai Biryani, and Petha are local specialties to try.
